Barrels in 2014

There was originally-unsubstantiated information on another H&R forum that indicated that H&R will discontinue all Sportster/rimfires and no more wood stocks except on shotguns.

On 22 JAN 14, while drawing my ticket number for an additional .22WMR barrel, the H&R customer service rep verified that yes, at least "some" barrels will be discontinued in 2014. He didn't know which ones yet. It sticks in my mind that he may have said something about stocks too, but I was a little distracted about that time downloading the service request.

Thanks for sharing that information as I was not aware of that policy. Keep me updated if you hear anything else.

As of today, 03 FEB, H&R disclosed five barrels that will be discontinued in 2014. The five are: the screw-in choke, ribbed, 12ga, the screw-in choke 20ga , the 10ga cylinder choke, the 204 Ruger bull and 243 Win. (bull?). There may be others later.

Sometimes if there is a big enough noise made from enthusiasts a discontinued barrel is reintroduced. An example would be the 357 magnum barrel which was not made for several years. The original came with iron sights, the reindroduced model is scope only. But at least it's back.

Concerning the above, Ilion said today that their intent is NOT to make any public announcement of specific discontinuances. The designated barrels will just cease to be as the current stock runs out. Obviously these were chamberings that they weren't making money on or were holding up the manufacturing line. I guess I was lucky to get what I got.
