In regards to Home Defense...which type of firearm do you keep handy for when " things go bump in the night "...?

Handgun...?

Shotgun...?

Rifle....?

...and why is that type of firearm your choice ?!

A few handguns are located around the house; mostly for concealability from potential burglars while being the most likely to be grabbed if something doesn't seem right. A Mossberg 500 loaded with slugs is above the walk in closet off the master bath; mostly because it gives me a warm fuzzy. A .357 Magnum rifle with a 4x-50 scope is in a locked cabinet near the front door, with 180-gr Hornady XTP Magnum loads in it because I can hit a quarter with it from 50+ yards and there is very little cover that it won't defeat.

In the garage in the trunk of my car is an AR-15 rifle and a Mossberg 590 GRS 8+1 (again w/ slugs) and a spare GLOCK22.
